Who are you to tell me we are not EQUAL?

“We are three sisters!” I answer as my acquaintance asks back in reiteration, “You don’t have a brother?” I answer, “No” as I wonder for the zillionth time why people don’t ask boys whether they have a sister.

Born in the 80s, while I grew up in a progressive family seeing my aunt heading a leading organisation, while me and my sisters were brought up with constant focus on education and career, when I stepped outside home, reality was different.
While you can ask me, “Who deprived you? You received a top notch education and will be peaking your career soon.” I say, “Society! Democracy is the poison that killed our women’s rights.”
While the Greek forefathers of democracy historically did not even allow women and slaves to vote, elsewhere in Switzerland, thanks to their intricate democratic system, women did not even have the right to vote till 1971. And what’s happening in my motherland Bangladesh right now?
I have given up hope that women in Bangladesh will ever have equal inheritance rights, because the majority will lay havoc if the government dares take such a step. Maybe, I should change my religion you can tell me, except, oh, no, not only us Muslim girls, but even the Hindus and Buddhists do not have equal inheritance rights for women in Bangladesh.
Then again, I lay in dismay, as I wonder why the Citizenship Act would not allow my husband to gain Bangladeshi citizenship if he was a foreigner, while foreigner wives of Bangladeshi men would be able to get it. I wonder again now as to who to blame? Religion? Society? Democracy? The Pakistanis who made the Citizenship Act of 1951? Or might I dare point to the Bangladesh government, who had the opportunity to amend the Citizenship Act 1951 fully and properly in 2009, but very charitably only amended it enough to allow foreigner children of Bangladeshi women to gain citizenship by descent but not our husbands.
Then again, you may argue, look at the bright side, our Citizenship Act did not even allow that basic right to us Bangladeshi women till 2009, while men enjoyed different privileges. But I want to know, while our constitution says that it shall not discriminate against any citizen on grounds of religion, race, caste, sex or place of birth, “Who are you to tell me I am not equal?”
And my fight for “freedom from discrimination” continues as I sing along, “Oh sinner man! Where are you gonna run to?” and wonder if the pen is really mightier than the sword.

 

Largest sea beach of the world

Cox’s Bazar is located at a distance of 152km south of Chittagong. It has a total area of 2260qskm. British captain Hiram Cox in 1799 defeated the Burmese king in a battle and set up a bazar (market) here which was named ‘Cox’s Bazar’ after him.

 

Several miles of golden sands, towering cliffs, surfing waves, rare conch shells, colourful pagodas, Buddhist temples, mosque, natural beauty and colourful triblal life, handy crafts, shopping paradise, delightful sea food - this is Cox’s bazar, the tourist capital of Bangladesh. Cox’s Bazar the world’s longest (120 km.) sea beach slopping gently down to the blue waters of the Bay of Bengal, Cox’s Bazar is one of the most attractive tourist spots in Bangladesh. The beach is famous for bathing, sunbathing and swimming. The breath-taking beauty of the sun-setting behind the waves of the sea is captivating. Attractive local variety of cigars and hand-loom products of the Rakhine tribal families are good buys. Their unique customs and costumes attract visitors as well.

Located at a distance of 152 km. south of Chittagong, the leading seaport of Bangladesh, Cox’s Bazar is connected both by air and road from Dhaka and Chittagong. Between Dhaka and Cox’s Bazar the distance is 416 km.

Lots of attractions are there. Picnic spot at Himchari, Teknaf- southern most tip of Bangladesh - and nearby islands of Sonadia and Moheskhali are memorable experiences of a lifetime. The Cox’s Bazar Holiday Complex of Bangladesh Parjatan Corporation, the National Tourism Organization is an ideal tourist resort having a number of facilities for the visitors.

Streamlined

Most people that upgraded to Outlook 2010 were surprised by how streamlined the program was. It reduced all of the major functions to just four windows, and it was very easy to go from one window to the next to use its associated function. Microsoft Outlook 2013 is even more streamlined.
There are now only two windows. There is one window where you can view your inbox and read emails, and the other is a small window full of different icons. The icons are easy to understand, and you should have no problem navigating from one function to the next. The interface is not the only thing that is streamlined.
Replying to emails is also easier. You don’t need to open a separate window to make a reply. You are given a space underneath an email to immediately post your response. It might just save a few seconds, but those seconds add up over the months and years.
The People cards are also more streamlined. You often had to go through the entire card to get the information you wanted, but the new People cards put everything right in front. You can quickly see who the person is, if they are online and any other information you need within seconds. It’s much easier than with Outlook 2010, and Outlook 2013 even removes duplicate People entries.

Social Networking in Microsoft Outlook 2013

Office 2010 embraced the rising usage of social networking by allowing you to easily integrate Facebook and LinkedIn information with your Outlook account. While this made it easy to keep up with people, there were a few problems with it. Outlook would often get confused if you followed the same person on different social networks, and it sometimes had problems if you followed people with the same name.
Outlook 2013 has fixed all that. Social networking has been largely refined over the last few years, and it seems like Microsoft has learned how it works and how people use it. You shouldn’t experience any problems when following people, and Microsoft Outlook 2013 makes it even easier to integrate social networking information.

Calendar

The calendar function has remained largely the same from Outlook 2010. You can still see what appointments you have, and it is very easy to add new appointments when you need to. The only major change from 2010 to 2013 is that you can make all the appointment days pop up from the calendar. This will show you the details of the appointment, and it makes it easier to see longer notes attached to the appointment days.

Design

This is one area where most people are upset about the change. Most people don’t consider design to be Microsoft’s strong point, but Microsoft Outlook 2013 barely has any design.
