Seo Master present to you: This post is part of the Who's @ Google I/O, a series of blog posts that give a closer look at developers who'll be speaking or demoing at Google I/O. This guest post is written by Arnaldo M Pereira from BTBuckets who will be demoing as part of the Developer Sandbox.

One of our greatest concerns when starting BTBuckets was scaling our infrastructure. We needed both cloud and platform services to fit our needs, and we tested many cloud service providers. In the end, we decided to create a mixed environment, running the profiling engine on App Engine and the front end on Amazon EC2.

Our experience with App Engine was smooth. There were times when the datastore would time out too frequently, but it was manageable and the application kept them from affecting our users. The biggest gain with App Engine is not needing to maintain our backend servers anymore. The old model, whether with in-house servers or an outside data center, involved disaster recovery and other high costs of maintaining infrastructure. We are relieved now that we can just focus on our business.

After creating a profiling and targeting framework with a small footprint and a very low cost per request, the next step was to integrate it with two great Google products to improve sales and conversions: Google Analytics and Google Website Optimizer.

Google Analytics helps us understand website navigation and usage, while Website Optimizer allows optimization via A/B testing. Built on top of them, BTBuckets and its Chrome plug-in allows you to create user segments right within Google Analytics, as well as to apply A/B testing to a subset of the website audience. The user might even go beyond that, by easily creating custom actions for each created segment.

We believe BTBuckets is a disruptive product: it adds value to the most common web analytics tools, it's generic enough to allow any customization through the JavaScript API, and it's free to use.

If you're attending Google I/O, be sure to visit us at the App Engine pod in the Developer Sandbox to learn more about BTBuckets!

Watching your PC grind to a halt is a frustrating experience for any technology user. It can feel like the gradual slow-down process begins as soon as you plug your shiny new device in for the first time: a few seconds longer to boot up here, a crashed program there, and before you know it you’re keeping a good book on standby to occupy you during the endless loading screens.

However, PC slowdown isn’t something you need to resign yourself to. There are a number of strategies you can use to help you get your computer back in peak condition, with all of them significantly cheaper than buying a new machine.

Run a Tune-Up Program

Tune-up programs are all-in-one solutions designed to identify and fix common causes of sluggish PC operation. A little like a virus checker, the idea behind the tune-up program is usually that you simply hit “run” and go make a coffee while the software works its magic. Common targets for tune-up programs include your registry (a collection of settings and system files that your computer needs to run, which can become clogged with junk very quickly once you’ve installed and deleted a few programs), and any temporary file folders that should have been emptied but haven’t.

On the whole, tune-up software can provide a quick fix for those who want to get their machine back to something approaching full strength as quickly as possible. However, they are rarely a permanent solution, as the problems they fix can often reoccur. In addition, some tune-up programs are designed to run permanently in the background while you work, and can cause as many speed issues as they resolve.

Clean the Gunk From Your PC

You’d probably be amazed at how dirty the inside of your PC can get, and you might also be surprised what effect this can have on performance. Cleaning your computer requires a degree of technical know-how, and generally requires you to go through the nerve-wracking process of opening your machine’s casing. However, learning to clean your computer is good practice, and can be a prudent step toward keeping your computer healthy for as long as possible.

The best way to go about cleaning your device is with a can of compressed air. These computer technician mainstays look a little like a deodorant can, squirting compressed air from a small nozzle at the top. This is great for working on the insides of a computer, which can be very sensitive and susceptible to static electricity from your hands. Make sure you don’t use too much on delicate components like fans, however. Once you’re finished with the compressed air, use a cotton swab to gently prise any remaining grime loose.

Use a Computer Repair Service

If tweaking your computer yourself fails, then contracting a computer repair service may well be your best bet. Computer repairs aren’t just limited to major faults: many providers offer tune-up or tweaking services designed to improve the condition of a working but slow PC.

Sending your computer away to be worked on can seem like a big risk, especially if your machine has personal or sensitive data on it. Happily, some companies now offer online computer repairs, whereby technicians can examine and work on your computer using remote access software. As well as being convenient, this means that you don’t risk having your machine damaged in transit, or having guests visit potentially sensitive areas of your workplace.

Last year in September at F8 developers conference Facebook unveiled its new layout called the ‘Facebook Timeline’ for all 800 million users on its network, but it wasn’t released publicly to everyone’s profile, so hardly very few Facebook users who knew about it, enabled and used it.
Timeline is the most unwanted feature that have ever happened on Facebook. Questions like how can I remove Facebook Timeline and how to revert back to old profile are regularly asked by many people. If you are also thinking the same, then let’s learn how to disable the new Timeline feature and restore the old classic look.

For Google Chrome users:

  1. Install F.B. Purity browser extension.
  2. Download this .bat file and save it to your computer.
  3. Close all open Chrome browser tabs and windows and click on the downloaded .bat file. This will run Chrome as IE7 as its user agent.
  4. Visit any Timeline profile page and you will see that it is displayed as old style profile page. With this step, we just killed the new Facebook Timeline. Just in case if you want to view the new Timeline instead, then open Chrome from your normal Chrome icon, instead of running the browser from the newly downloaded .bat file.
For Firefox users:

  1. Install the F.B. purity browser extension for Firefox.
  2. Install the “User Agent Switcher” Extension from here.
  3. Navigate to “Tools > User Agent Switcher > Internet Explorer” menu and then click on “Internet Explorer 7″.
  4. In case you want to view the new Timeline, then then just set the user agent to “Default User Agent” or simply disable this user agent switcher extension.
For Opera users:

  1. Install the FB Purity browser extension for Opera.
  2. Setting up custom user agent in Opera is easy. In the URL/address bar, type “opera:config#ISP|Id” and then enter the Custom User Agent string “Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 7.0; Windows NT 6.0)” and click “Save”.
  3. Restart your browser and then you will be able to see the old Facebook profile.
For Safari users:

  1. Install the F.B. Purity browser extension for Safari.
  2. To switch user agent, go to “Preferences” menu, select “Advanced”, and then tick the “Show Develop menu in menu bar” option.
  3. Click on the page icon menu (which is next to cog wheel icon) and then select the “Develop/User agent” menu. Now you can select the user agent which you wish to set for browsing. Select Internet Explorer 7. Browse to a Timeline profile and you will be able to see your profile in old format.
This new updated method will bring back your old Facebook profile page. Of course these changes are just visible to you and not to others. Other people will be able to see your normal Facebook Timeline.

Timeline remover

It is an extension for Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome using which you can view Facebook profile and pages in the old and classic way.
You can download the extension for Chrome, Firefox and Internet Explorer. Download and install the extension as per the browser that you are using.

If you cannot view this addon bar, then go to View > Toolbars and click on “Add-on bar” or press the shortcut key Ctrl + /.
By using this extension, you can say bye bye to Facebook’s new Timeline feature in a simple and easy way. This method doesn’t involve any complications as all you need to do is to just install an extension.
